Intertrochateric hip fractures
A previously healthy 63-year-old female fell from a step ladder and sustained a left-sided hip fracture.
Hip dislocation with acetabular fracture
A 35-year-old female fell from a standing height and felt an immediate onset of severe right-sided hip pain.
Fractures in adolescents
A 13-year-old girl fell while skiing and was taken to a local hospital. Radiographs were obtained and revealed a right-sided Anterior Column with Posterior Hemi Transverse acetabular fracture.
Cartilage injuries
A previously healthy 18-year-old male was involved in a motor vehicle accident as a belted driver whose automobile struck a pole and was taken to a local hospital where evaluation revealed an isolated Pipkin IV Type postero-superior fracture-dislocation of the right hip.
Acetabular fractures (hip socket)
A 34-year-old male was a passenger in an automobile that collided with another vehicle at high-speed. There was a lateral impact on the passenger side door. He was taken to the local trauma center for initial assessment where he was diagnosed with a right-sided Anterior Column Posterior Hemitransverse acetabular fracture.

On August 17th, 2013, I was hit by a motor vehicle in a parking lot. I was a pedestrian and 6 months pregnant at the time.
Because of the nature of my injuries (acetabular fracture, fractured pelvis, etc.) and the fact that I was pregnant (surgery, etc. had to be performed with me being awake), I was transferred to HSS, where I received excellent care through Dr. Helfet’s team.
